John Howard
Engineer Manager
John Howard joined SMArtX in Spring 2022 to serve as the Engineering Manager, guiding the growth of the engineering teams. John brings his leadership in managing in-person and remote developers to deliver high-quality, highly scalable, and feature-rich products. John’s experience in customer engagement, maturing development teams, and addressing technical challenges accelerates software production at SMArtX.
He previously worked at HID Global since July 2004 and served as the Director of Software Development for the Citizen ID business unit of Crossmatch, an HID Global company. John has led several development teams on critical initiatives. The teams have fully implemented a visitor management system that supports a windows client, a web portal, and mobile biometric devices. He designed the Service Oriented Architecture based biometric middleware that is integrated with applications to give the ability to perform biometric enrollment, identification, and verification. Starting in 2012, he has been leading the Crossmatch development of the ArcID solutions that provide a purely web-based biometric registration, transport, and identification solution to significant financial and government customers.
Before joining HID Global, John worked for United Technologies in the Artificial Technologies Group, designing expert system software that ground support uses to diagnose engine performance and health for the F22 Advanced Tactical Fighter and Global Beverage Group developing mobile applications for purchasing and inventory delivery.
John is currently serving as Vice President for the Palm Beach State College Business Partnership Council. He had previously served as President of the West Palm Beach Police Athletic League. He graduated from Florida A & M University and has a Master’s in Computer Science from the University of Pittsburgh.
